Defective Router

It would appear from checks made that the wireless chip in my cable router has died. Am still connected to the net but not to the two laptops. Replacement on order. Question is, is there any uninstalling to be carried out or can I just replace old router with new one? and reset as before. My son who normally helps me out is away so I cannot pick his brains.
TIA

When the new one arrives , set it up as you did the other one , give it the same name (SSID) , use the same channel , do everything the same , and the laptops will connect automatically .
