PC has been set up for dial up broadband, but I now want to connect to LAN. Machine does not seem to see LAN only dial-up. Should I delete the dial-up connection settings to get rid of this or is there another problem?

Go into internet explorer, tools, internet options.

Connections tab, Dial whenever a network connection is not present.

Apply, then ok.

Restart Internet Explorer

The DialUp connection configuration doesn't/shouldn't make any difference.

The LAN will be listed as a (Fast) Ethernet Adapter in Network Connections (Start>Settings>Network Connections); at least it is in my case with a wired ADSL modem router, the dialup connection being retained as a PAYG fall back.

I have the dialup modem Properties in Internet Options configured to Never Dial A Connection; there is also no need to reboot IE after making such configuration changes, only to OK them.
