Dedicated Sound Card better than Onboard Soundcard

Will games performance be better with a decicated sound card, rather than onboard?
I have a PC with an ASUS P5GD1 motherboard and I am using the onboard sound. Games play fine, but will they run even better with a dedicated card?
If so, does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks.

Hi, yes a Sound card would give much better audio for games. I like the Soundblaster Audigy2.

Cheers.

I agree that the sound would be better, but the question is will the game RUN better ?

I suspect there would be an improvement, but how much I'm not really sure. I wouldnt expect great improvement...

Exactly, that is why I stated 'better audio'. It would not make the game run any better.

Cheers.

A dedicated soundcard relieves the CPU of some effort meaning it can work on the physics or other calcs if gaming.

The rest of your spec is no stated so it depends what you do with the PC.
Enjoy

Thanks, for the responses. I'll go down the dedicated card route.

Hi, an interesting read - thanks, added to my personal 'knowledge base'.

'Twas interesting to see that they did mention my choice of card - Audigy2.

Cheers.
