Deckstar 500 gig IDE hard drive will not format

  Bruz 08:10 22 Jan 10

Xp Pro sp2 formatted it and then said you will have to use another partition to install Xp on!
It will go no further than that.
I booted up the computer on a SATA 500 and tried Partition magic 8 to format it, it said that it could not do so as there was a fault on the drive.
Any one got any ideas
Cheers Bruz

click here and download the 'Drive Fitness Test and run it against the drive/

this will highlight if there are any issues with the drive.

Try using Partition Magic to *remove* the existing partition(s), then re-partition it and format it as NTFS.

Alternatively, you could use Partition Magic to remove the existing partition(s) and install XP into the unpartitioned drive. It will then create and format the necessary partition.

This assumes that it is the partitioning that is causing the problem and that creating a new partition will resolve the issue.
