Dead Stop

After a normal re-start from a switch off my desktop xp pro will not go past the very first screen stopping showing main processor AMD Athlon.
Will not 'move on' even after several re-starts.
Will not let me enter start up just freezes. Has anyone experienced this. I have done nothing out of the normal. Thanks.

Have you tried getting into safe mode, tapping the F8 key at bootup?

Like jak1 said ,try safe mode and system restore or last good configuration.

Jak_1 Thanks for the input. I have tried that and it would not let me do it

I'm just checking the keyboard as its a wireless one.

"keyboard as its a wireless one"

If wireless is via USB you need to change to a PS2

I had a similar problem in getting to start in Safe Mode with a Wireless keyboard and mouse. Look here: click here it may help.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. Always find this forum the best with the most knowledgeably people. After using this ps2 fed wireless keyboard and mouse for 5 years it must have bit the dust. Just replaced with my old wired one and hey-presto it works. Thanks to all who had an input.
