Suddenly my PC wont boot up--led lights flicker continuously on CD drives on the front of tower and a similar but steady led light on monitor but that is all. Any ideas?

Check the internal power cables, particularly the one which powers the motherboard.

Check leads as above and make sure no external drives, printers etc are coupled.

but Sounds as if your PSU is dying / dead.

If you disconnect the power leads to the CD / DVD drive will it bot to a screen?
