I have a problem, when booting my PC it comes up with " please insert boot disk" on inserting the boot disk all that happens is "BIOS SECTOR 37 missing, then drives not found " and it doesnt recognise the keyboard. I get a "BIOS ROM CHECKSUM ERROR" report I am or was running XP PRO I have taken out the motherboard battery and managed to access the bios only once and reset it but still have the same problem, NO boot up and no drives recognised, FDISK AND FORMAT ETC dont work as there is no C DRIVE recognised.Any ideas please
Its no good running anything, your BIOS as copped it. You could try removing the CMOS motherboard Battery. If that will not work you may be able to flash the BIOS if you can start OK with a Floppy disc
Have tried removing the CMOS motherboard battery on booting I was able to access the bios screen but when tyring to boot up the same thing happened and it wont boot from a floppy because of the reasons a4bove,Do I need a new motherboard,Or can you tell me how to flash the board please
You need to know the motherboard, or if it’s a shop build Computer you need to go to there site to download the BIOS for flashing the CMOS chip. You also need to download the instructions a Flash Utility to Flash the BIOS with. these are loaded onto a floppy disc to start the computer with. But you have to follow the Instructions to the letter or you will need a new Motherboard
How old is the motherboard battery, have you tried a new one. I've been using computers since Windows 1.0 and never heard of the bios chip failing unless it was flashed with the wrong bios update that doesn't seem tobe the case with you.
Bios string on screen as you boot, there are sites, such as the excellent click here , that specialise in matching bios strings with model numbers. This is because there are other resources on the net that contain bios strings and their matching model numbers
use the mobo ID tools on this site or others such as click here which specialises in PcChips boards.
thanks, I left the battery out for quite the put it back in and pc fired up ok,shut it down and tried firing it up all I get is "BIOS ROM CHECKSUM ERROR" and it wont boot again it seems as soon as its had a few hours disconnected it fires up again, will buy a new battery in the morning and see what happens
