Dead Motherboard after putting RAM in?

I put a 256Mb extra RAM in my wife's PC and now its completly dead.

Things were running a bit slow on Windows ME, and I thought some more RAM might help (or was the MB being iffy?)

Could faulty RAM kill off the MB? Have tried taking off everything, including the CPU and changing the PSU. No beeps or POST - just the CPU fan goes round.

So, think its the MB or possibly the CPU.

Any ideas welcombe.

take the ram out if you haven't already.

Yes - have taken the RAM out but no difference.

Sounds like the mobo has something wrong - try taking it out of the case and connect it to psu and nothing else to see what happens.

Place it on some thick newspaper to ensure that it doesn't short.
