I have got rid of my horrible packard bell system and built my own 2000xp system. I have installed all the new direct x etc needed to play games. when i click on the game icon i get an error message "ddraw.dll cannot start". i investigated the problem and it lookes like my pc detects 2 plug and play monitors when i have only got 1 "packard bell". when i delete one monitor from device manager i can play games. but when i start the pc up again it detects another screen. so i am back to square one.
i also have kernel32.dll errors
mmsystem.dll errors

is my hard disk buggered? i did have a massive virus, formatted hard disk.

please help

Operating System?

Have you installed the Motherboard Drivers?

Try going into Safe Mode and remove the additional monitor from there.
