DDR2 400MHz or 533MHz. Is there a Difference?

I've just ordered a new pc from Dell. On the web it was advertised as having 1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 533 MHz (2x512) memory. On my order confirmation it says 1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 400 MHz (2x512) memory.

I queried it with Dell and they say that I won't notice any difference. Will this be the case or should I insist on the faster 533MHz RAM?

No you wouldn't notice the difference. But if that is what Dell is advertising then that is what you should get

I ordered the PC on the 9th and e-mailed them on 9th at about 11pm to advise that the order confirmation was incorrect. I've spoken to them this morning and I'm now waiting for a call back. The thing is my wife also received a call this morning to advise that they are going to deliver it on Tuesday between 5pm and 9pm (that's really good) so it looks like its already been built. I guess that if I insist on the faster RAM then delivery will be dealayed.

Has anyone else ordered a similar system recently? Looking on the Dell website it says on the tech spec that the 9150 system takes Standard 512 MB Dual channel DDR2-400MHz SDRAM, upgradable to 4 GB2 Dual channel DDR2-533MHz SDRAM. If I click on the Learn More and Details tab it says that the 9150 takes 533 or 667MHz DDR2. So I'm a bit confused what it takes.

In any case I'm still waiting for the return call from Dell.

Now noticed something else wrong with my order confirmation. On the web the monitor I chose was the Dell UltraSharp 1707FP 17" Black LCD flat panel but on my confirmation it says Dell UltraSharp 1704FP 17" Midnight grey LCD flat panel. I've checked the spec of both and the Midnight Grey is slightly inferior to the Black one.

I've e-mailed Dell and to their credit and, as the system has been built, (I only ordered it on Thursday at 7pm) they offered me either a free printer or £100 off the £880 cost. Yes they do work on Sundays! I've declined this as it's not the cost but the spec that's important to me so the order has now been cancelled. Dell has promised to phone me tomorrow and I'll re-order the one that I originally wanted.

The only reason that I phoned Dell rather than order online was because there is an error on their website and I was quoted a price of £896 instead of £872. After some discussion with them we agreed on £880.

So I'm annoyed with myself for not checking the order properly but I'm please that Dell have tried to resolve this so quickly for me.

It's now back to the drawing board. Hopefully I'll order the right system tomorrow.
