ddr memory-compatibility

allo guys,just a quick question.i have a pc that i built & since september of last year it has been running spot on.What i would like to know is,is it ok to run one 512meg ddr400 along side a 512meg ddr 333.i have been running these side by side but the 333 has just gone down.is it possible that running the 400 along side has caused this.processor athlon xp 2600 o/s win xp pro.

Hi bananaslik. I doubt that mixing memory speeds is the cause of the failure of one of your sticks. The computer usually just runs both sticks at the speed of the slower one. Mixing different makes and speeds has often been said to cause instability, so it's best to use one brand and stick to one speed.
