I have 1Gb of ddr 400 ram in dual channel mode (Corsair-value select matched pair) i want to double that to 2Gb but as i am on a very tight budget and cant really afford anything above £70, could i get two 512Mb strips and put them into the other 2 slots? or would that not work?

Yes, as long as they are the same type.

According to Scan's Corsair Value prices, buying a 1GB memory DDR is about the same price as two 512MB.

Incidentally, the price of the 512MB memory DDR was about £10-£12 less a few months ago...:-(

Slightly cheaper on Scan's TodayOnly page - ends today or early tomorrow.

MY COMPUTER HAS 256MB DDR 266 RAM. AS A COMPLETE NOVICE, WHAT IS DDR AND WHY DO THE TWO FIGURES DIFFER. IF I ADD 256MB MEMORY WILL THIS SPEED UP THE SYSTEM.
