Date has disappeared from taskbar ??

You know when you Hover your cursor over the clock, the date shows up, well today it does this but the date is behind any open windows (I can just see it, behind a window, in the bottom right of the screen). Does it depend on how many icons are on the taskbar, (notification area) by the clock (6). I have tried all the obvious things (show clock, always on top, etc) but am I missing any thing ??? Using XP home.
Alan (puzzled).

it has happened a couple of times to me and this is how I fix it. Right click the taskbar, select properties, untick " Keep taskbar on top of other windows ". Apply and OK it. After that, go back and put the tick back in.
