Data recovery from a corrupted hard disk

  jz 15:07 22 May 04

A friend had problems with a hard disk so bought a new one and I installed Windows + applications on it. She has most her data that was stored on it backed up, so I've copied that to her new hard drive. I tried to copy the missing bits from the faulty hard drive with some success. The problem is if I try to copy a directory using Windows Explorer and one or more files are corrupt, instead of copying all that is not corrupt, it stops as soon as it reaches a corrupt file (after pausing for a while, presumably making repeated attempts at accessing the file in question). Are there any free utilities that do a better job?
