data error on copy/transfer

while trying to copy some MP3 from a disc i backed up on my old system/machine to my new one i get the error message 'cannot copy etc data error (cyclic redundancy check) and transfer stops. does not occur with the same song each time
any ideas?

The messaage can occur if the CD has been burnt on a different drive to the one you're reading the files back on.

The solution seems to be to burn the CD at a slower rate- 4 times say.

that rather sounds like it might be my problem but i do not have the old machine anymore, and the music was saved on cd from old machine hard drive, and as i dont have the music anymore (except on the cd) i wanted to copy it into my music folder on new machine so i dont have anything to burn,

Have a look at the transfer mode on the IDE channel your CD is on.

If it's set for DMA then slow it down by selecting PIO mode- it just might read the CD in the slower mode.
