Dark scans

I always get dark scans with my Epson 1660 Perfection scanner. Is this a characteristic of Epson scanners or am I able to tweak some setting to get the brightness right?

My old Mustek has contrast & white level settings that can be adjusted. I'd have thought all scanners would have some control over this. Have you checked the help files?

I use Paint Shop Pro 8 when scanning with my Epson 1660 Perfection scanner. Any corrections needed, such as brightness, contrast, sharpness etc are done within this software.

I have an Epson Perfection 1250 scanner. On the TWAIN interface is a button called configuration. Press that and you can set the monitor gamma. Mine is set at 1.8 and my scans look fine. Try adjusting that value, but also check your prints. Do they match what you see on the screen?
