Damaged CD ROM

While getting a CD ROM out of its box, I damaged its centre. A sliver of plastic, half the size of the circumference cracked and it would not even attempt to spin when put in the drive. When I removed the offending sliver I could hear the disc spinning in the drive but not fast enough to activate the program. Would you think it's damaged beyond repair?

Simple response, Defintely. The center of the CD is where the main info. for the CD is. Sorry!

Contact the vendor and see if they will replace it for nominal charge. I contacted Microsoft about a damaged win 98 disc and they sent a replacement for £16.00

The sliver of plastic that you mention does not contain Data it's the clear bit but that is where the drive makes the CD spin so it's slipping. You will have to bin it
