Which version of PowerDVD do you have (most likely 8 or 9)?

Cant find it looked in properties and cant see any other clues as to where it.

Do you need power dvd as vista plays dvd's I know its picky on some dvd's but if you also download k-lite codecs they play ok.

I've lost version 4 of Power DVD doing a clean install of XP Home.
I've noticed stuartli favours VLC player + codecs, is this a suitable replacement for power DVD?

Er, no...:-)

I use Windows Media Player mainly for DVDs, although I also have PowerDVD5.

However, I always recommend the latest version of the K-Lite Full Codecs Pack. See:

It's updated on a frequent basis.

Sorry stuartli, I thought that you also recommended VLC.
JUst asking 'cos I don't now have a DVD player on my lappy.

I did have VLC installed at one time, but rarely used it.

I haven't come across any mention of "critical" updates so far.

Might be worth Uninstalling and Reinstalling PowerDVD7.3, followed by a check for any updates or patches.
