Customising Folders in XP Home

I am having problems keeping the customisation of folders when viewing files in explorer. All the folders seem to change the way they display the icon eg as a list, tiles etc whenever I change a folder. I seem to remember in a back issue of PC Advisor that a registry entry could be changed from the default number of files that can be customised to a new number or even infinate.
Does anyone recall this? (it was in the helpline section).

Go to folder options, click the view tab, in the "advanced settings" section, tick "remember each folder's view settings", click apply, then if you want all folders set like that one, click the "apply to all folders button"
