Cursor flashing

I am running win xp pro on an acer laptop

The cursor has a continual flashing of the egg timer next to it even when I haven,t clicked on anything

How can I get rid of this please?

You need to check in Task Manager to see which processes are running overtime.

If you can use the mouse then just right click on an empty space on the taskbar to open Task Manager, if the mouse won't do it use CTRL+ALT+DEL once to open Task Manager then click on Processes and check for the ones that are hogging the CPU.

Then post results back here.

Thanks Indigo 1 but it has now stopped once I did a couple of restarts and checked the mouse in the control panel

Fingers crossed
