Hi, I installed XP Home edition when it was released, later I upgraded to XP1, since then I have upgraded to XP2.If I run SFC /scannow and inserted the original XP Home disc when requested to repair a file, wouldn't XP1 and XP2 have overwritten all the original files?. If I attempted to repair a file would my system go pear shaped?. Just curious. cheers, Bill

No it won't go pear shaped, I have run sfc since loading SP 2 with no problems. I think you will find that sfc checks all the basic system files and not patches, updates etc.

It also pulls replacements from the folder windows\service pack files\i386. Which is installed as yu applied the updates.

Just a friendly note. It's not XP1 and XP2 - it's XP plus SP1 and/or SP2 (the SP represents Service Pack).

Hi Stuartli, The amount of lager I had said it was XP2, same thing I suppose. Cheers, Bill
