Criminally slow downloads!

  thedogisdead3 22:45 22 Mar 05

Ahoy there,

Over the last week or so my downloads have been monitor-punchingly slow... where you'd expect 60kpbs, I'm often gettin 8kbs, where you'd expect 30, I'm getting 1 or 2.

I did a diagnostic test with McAfee, and everything checked out okay... so is it just a combination or paranoia and bad luck, or are there some malicious gremlins at work dya reckon?

I have a 1 meg connection, so by rights it should be no slouch!

Any particular sites, or is it all of them?

  Daveboy 22:48 22 Mar 05

run a speedtest. ADSLGUIDE.ORG or similar, what readings do you get ?

  thedogisdead3 22:49 22 Mar 05

Nope, it seems to be a general problem with p2p stuff such as WinMX and Bittorrent sites...'s download rate also rapidly declines.

I just did the test and the results were:

Actual Speed

True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 903 Kbps (112.9 KB/sec) 975 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 77 Kbps (9.6 KB/sec) 83 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Is this normal?

That sounds about right downstream. Your upstream speed should be higher - about 30 KByte/sec.

Most broadband, whatever the downstream speed, is only 250 kbit/s upstream.

Nice one for that, I'm probably just having an unlucky rough patch...
