I am trying to set up a static ip address on ntl

I have problems with port forwarding and not having an alternative dns server

I am using a D-link DI624 router and am trying to connect to a download programme calles Utorrent.

Everytime I check to seeif the port is working it says it is not.
I have spoken to D-link who did not have a clue
Ntlhave told me that they only provide dynamic connections and what i am trying to do is impossible. Please HELP ME Richard

You are constrained by your ISP if you require a static IP address ~ most ISPs have to use dynamic IP and DNS server addressing for network operational efficiencies.

If this download program requires you to have a static IP address for your WAN gateway;
1) be cautious as to why it does
2) look for another ISP who will provide you with a static IP.

Re-validate why you need to change your internet access/service provider as well as your network setup, just to be able to use one download program.
Good luck.

...or will a different program do just as well?

Are you switching of the router or modem at night? If you don't switch off, you will keep the same IP address and it will behave similar to a static address although it is dynamic.
