Creating MP3 files with Audacity

I have just created a wav file from a video using Pinnacle Studio which was around 175MB. I then used Audacity to convert it to a MP3 file and the files size is now around 44MB! Is there a way to make the file a lot smaller?

44MB doesn't sound too bad, you could probably compress them further if you can reduce the bit rate, but the quality will suffer, you could try Ogg Vorbis files they tend to be smaller and some people claim you can compress the files smaller without losing so much quality and some players will play Ogg files. I use both and can't really tell much difference between them.
