Creating a dvd with .wmv files

I have recently bought a Vista PC with a dvd burner. I have some .wmv files I created using Movie maker. If I burn these to the dvd (using Vista burner ?) will the dvd play on my dvd player and start automatically ?

NO, you need a converting prog, or a decent editting prog eg, - Ulead, Studio, Adobe Elements. These will create a set of files (*.VOBs - MPEG2) which will play on a standalone DVD player. David

I should have said, my answer above applies to XP WMM, Vista WMM I am not sure about. David

I think it depends on the variant of Vista you have.

Home Premium and Ultimate have the Media Centre features which, I think, extend Windows Movie Maker so it can a) save in MPEG2 format and b) burn DVDs directly.

We have an XP machine with Media Centre and it will certainly do it all in-house.

Although you may find a DVD's top-level menu will appear when you insert it, just like with a commercial disc, I don't think it will start playing the actual programme automatically. But don't take my word for that...
