creating an association to open XLS files

  mags65 12:19 11 Oct 05

Received and email with an attachment but when I try to open it it says 'file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options in control panel.' Had a look but not sure how to do it. Can anyone help please.

Thanks in advance

an xls file is one created by Excel.
I assume you have this installedon your PC?

to create an association

In explorer click on tools - folder options - file types tab.

click new type in xls it will appear at the top of the file types screen click change and navigate to the folder containing EXcel click ok

If you don't have MS Office/Excel - then you could get the free OpenOffice click here which will open Excel files (and is an excellent MS compatible office package to boot.
