"Create CD" always making files read only

When I transfer files between Desktop and Laptop using CDs, the files copied onto the recipent PC are always read only. Not the end of the world but irritating.
Know of a way around this or is this the only way it can be??

Any file copied FROM a CDR / CDRW will ALWAYS be Read Only.

Why? Is it because it's (obviously) not possible to edit a file while its on the CD? But why do the attributes have to change as well?

Thanks Jester

Unless you use a CD-RW with DirectCD running in the background.

If you are using Adaptec software, use the Direct CD option (packet writing) which formats the CD so that it can be treated like a conventional disc to which files can be copied using Explorer.

Nero has a sililar option.

If you use a CD-RW with Roxio's DirectCD running, you can copy files from a CD (created using DirectCD) onto a HDD and they remain fully accessible.

I'm trying to fix an excel file at the same time. Too many pots and not enough cooks, sorry.

any files copied to a hard drive from a cd can easily be made "open" again by right clicking them (or the containing folder to do them all) click properties, then untick read only

good luck
