c.p.u.running at 98%

my son`s pc.is running at 98%at startup according to task manager.In task manager, under the Process heading, under user name, it has my son`s name david swann_2 98% 2,588k.
The P.C.is almost unusable.Running XP2 proffessional,System Restore will not work.My son is the sole user.
Can anyone please help.Thankyou.

What happens when the desktop is fully loaded? What does windows task manager / processes show.

As above,check for viruses/spyware/malware.If you cannot access the internet with your sons pc...download these programs to a flash drive or disc. click here

I thought, by your wording, that it was just at bootup.

If it is, as skidzy mentions, still running david swann_2 @ 100%. Then it would be good sense to follow the above advise.

It may also be worth disabling everything in msconfig / startup. The running windows task manager again. To see if it has settled down.

Download,it's free,ProcessExplorer and it will reveal
what is using up all that cpu power.
