CPU too hot

Just built new pc: P4 530j[3.0 gig] asus P5gpl m/b 6600gt graphics 512 meg ram xp pro standard hsf. When first started temp of cpu shown in bios was 95C. Changed thermal compound to artic silver and it went up to 105C. At this point the pc shut down. Any ideas?

Did you remember to connect the heatsink fan and does it spin when you power up?

Yes - fan spins at 2800 rpm.
2 other fans in case, 1 pushing air in & the other pulling it out.

check if you have put the heat sink correctly, prob not properly on as that temp is way to hot!

be th BIOS reporting incorrectly - try flashing the board with the latest BIOS version

I would have thought at that temp the PC would shut itself down as the Asus boards have that feature built in..
