My computer (Home built) is fitted with a a asus P4T533 motherboard with asus Probe it has installed a Pentium P4 2.53 CPU The probe gives a warning of overheating at times in spite of 5fans fitted,I think I may have the setting in the probe software for CPU temperature set low , can somebody advise the maximum temperature setting I can use?

the "danger" zone at 60ºC / 140ºF. While the CPU can run at much higher temperatures, we think that around this area is where you might start seeing problems.

I have a Gigabyte mob - Pentium 4 2.40 GHz. Mostly runs about 33 - 38ºC. Never seen it above 40ºC. You don't say what your running temp actually is but if its much more than 45ºC you should check that the fans are running OK with no dust etc around.
