CPU Fan doesn't always start

  Darth Port 14:02 04 Feb 03

When 1st booting, the CPU fan often doesn't start, but when I power down and switch on again it's almost always fine. I know beacuse I have run the mobo (Asus) monitor, and I can hear the fan "trying" to start. Everything is nice and quiet on the 2nd boot, and the mobo monitor reports the fan is running.

Any easy fixes/checks for this, or should I replace the fan?

(Athlon XP 2200, Asus KS7333)

Replace it as a matter of urgency. Even if you repair, there's always a good chance it will fail again - something that is very unwise to allow.

Agree with €dstow, re-place at once! not worth the risk of damaging your CPU. Even a good quality fan/heatsink can be bought for approx. £20-00.

Change the fan. Its by far the cheaper option in the not very long run.

Thanks for the help-looks like a new fan is the safe option!
