CPU CONFIGURATION SPEED & LOST CD ROM DRIVES

My CPU processor showed as 1000ghtz so my friend configured it to that amount as before it was configured to 500 Ghtz. Was this the correct thing to do.

The reason I am asking is because I am having a problem with the computer and when it booted up once it went straight into setup to the CPU speed part where there was a warning message regarding setting the CPU to the wrong speed.

Also when it booted up it lost both my CDRW and DVDRW drives.

Anybody got any ideas please.

You do not say what the processor actually is.

Can you give those details and what the motherboard is please.
