Cost effective internet access with dialup

My daughter needs to access the internet mainly for the purpose of using e-mail. She only has dialup and does not visualise broadband in the immediate future. Browsing would be an extra.
What is the most cost effective way of going about this?

pay as you go, or a 1p/min deal from her phone company - i think onetel do such a thing, sure other phone companies do too.

otherwise a local rate 0845 ISP such as UK2 click here

1p a minute deals don't seem to abound too much these days - even Tiscali's rates are 4p a minute at certain periods.

If it's just e-mails than a standard PAYG account would suffice - if browsing is added later than a fixed monthly payment for AnyTime use would probably prove more effective cost wise.

Any PAYG option would do - many ISPs have them. She can minimize time on line by writing messages off line and only connecting for the few seconds it takes to send. Same with opening and readiing - do it off line.
As Stuartli says, a monthly account is best cost-wise as soon as she starts to use connection for browsing internet.
The goal-posts shift on an almost daily basis where comparative costs are concerned: it pays to keep an eye on what;'s on offer both from ISPs and from telcoms like BT and others.
