Corruption of DVD Devices!!!!

I have a Pioneer DVD-rom and an MSI DR8A DVD Burner.
I have just been away for a while and my family have been using it. When I booted the PC the system showed new devices were found and
now the MSI does not show up in Explorer and is not found on
subsequent scanning for new hardware. The Pioneer comes
up as "PAOFEER DVD%RGMDVD%105" in the device manager.

When I insert a CD into the pioneer drive and go into
windows Explorer, it says:
Drive is not accessible - The disk structure is
corrupted and unreadable.

I have searched the registry and found that there are multiple instances of this Paofeer device in the Registry.

The BIOS also shows a corruption and shows the Pioneer as something else.

I have tried uninstalling the drives, shutting down, physically disconnecting the two drives, rebooting without them, shutting down then reconnecting the devices and rebooting. They came back to normal but only for a few days and have now reverted back to the corruption.

What is happening and can I fix it?

Update firmware on both drives and see if that work
