Corrupted windows files?

  maestrophil 14:15 27 Feb 15

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61. Recently the computer froze and when I restarted it it went straight to the opening screen asking if you want to restart Windows normally. I pressed yes and then the computer took ages to do anything, but eventually started running loads of rescue check. After half an hour of checking itself it finally opened but with a temporary desktop, unable to save anything and with all my files not there. I tried to run system restore but this didn't work either. A pal mentioned corrupted Windows files...but any help to restore my computer would be much appreciated!

What OS? For Windows 8 see Scannow

Another link: Scannow 2

I tried sannow...but it didn't find anything wrong...and now it won't run at all from this temporary desktop!

Repeatedly tap F8 during boot.

Select Repair option (Safe Mode with Networking is also there if that is not what you tried before)

Select Command prompt and type chkdsk c: /f /r

Also have a go at the Start Up Repair.

Also worth trying a system restore (oldest one).
