corrupted files

I recently installed 'CyberScrub' Basic Edition, on my comp. (which had 'Windows XP' installed), and deleted my Recycle bin, only. Now I find I cannot download any 'Windows updates' and 'System restore' is also gone. I don't know as yet of anything else that's gone, but I cannot restore at all. I was about to re-install XP, but I cannot find its original CD case (lost when moving home), so I can't enter the COA as required.
Can anyone please help ?

Start > run > type cmd then type sfc /scannow.

Just type sfc /scannow into run,..ignore the cmd

spikeychris,
Thanx for your reply, but when I typed 'sfc/scannow', I received the message
'Windows cannot find sfc/scannow'.

PS
Is there no way I can re-instate from CyberScrub, or, alternatively, how can I find the authentication number ?
