Have been getting blue screens when booting up pc when reaching the stage when the desktop comes on. The pc requires a restart and the more blue screen messages. Have found out that the operating system is corrupt and will require re installing. How do i do this and will I lose all programmes on the hard drive etc.

There is a kernel32.dll file you can replace and it resolves the problem.

MS have an article on it - Ill go and look later.

It's the one about restarting wehn reaching logon screen.

I do have a pc with XP on and thats always been fine. The prob is with 98SE. Had done a disc defrag since the probs started and it seemed to reduce the amount of these blue screens.
