Corrupt Floppy discs

I have a floppy disc which has work from university on it but when i try to open the disc it says it needs to be formatted and i cant access the work

I used to get this problem with floppy discs at school and generally even new ones sometimes do this. Did you not save the work to a hard disk before you did onto the floppy? My advice would be to buy a USB pen drive, they are very cheap these days, have more capacity than a floppy disk, and are more reliabe and easy to use. I have an integral one from PC world that i bought 2 years ago for £12.99 for 128 MB, and its still going strong. Unless your computers are really old (having a windows version before 98SE), I'd advise gettting one of these, and always save your work to a hard disk as well incase this happens.

A floppy is not a secure medium. I hope that you did not have much on it.
