Corrupt disk in Windows XP but ok in DOS

I recently installed Windows XP but before I did I copied my important files to a second drive.
Now although XP recognises the drive it says that the disk is not formatted and I can't access any of my original data.

If I boot up in DOS the new disk is not available even though it shows when loading and I can access all the data on my old drive.

Does anybody know of a way that I can back up my files other than to floppys withou losing the ability for long filenames.

The program is now called "FileRecovery"I and is no longer freeware. I downloaded the tial version which accessed my disk but you can only recover 1 file at a time & below 10k. The full version worked fine and I was able to recover all my files.

Again many thanks for saving me many hours.
