copying pc games

this is for personal use, due to the job i do i have lots of children in and out my house, i would like to know how to copy rollercoaster tycoon 2, and others as most of the children that i look after like to play these games, they are getting scratched and i need to make a copy for the children, i was told to get Alcohol 120% and this will do the job, but as im not very good at these things i tried and yes i made a copy but the only part that it copied was the first part of the game that say play new game, play saved game and exit after that there is nothing on the disc any help please

The members of the Forum are not allowed to post advice on a subject such as this I'm afraid. What you are trying to do, regardless of the reasons is illegal, unless it specifically says in the licencing agreement that you are allowed to make a backup. None of my games allows backups so its illegal to copy them. Sorry.

I have looked at the `END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT` and YES you are allowed to make one copy of the game.

Here is what it states -


2. You may make and maintain one copy of the Software for backup and archival
purposes, provided that the original and copy of the Software are kept in your

So you are able to ask how to back up a copy for yourself.

legal bit - I am totally against software piracy. I understand that the information i am providing is to allow her to make a back up copy of a game which she owns, which she is allowed to to according to Atari Interactive, who own the copyright.

I found on the web various patches which allow some games, once fully installed on the hard drive, to be played on a pc without the CD in the drive. Not sure if it's legal or not, but I only investigated this when our Command & Conquer Generals game disc started to develop a worrying radial crack, and neither the retailer nor EA would replace it.
