I run windows xp sp2 which has become corrupted
I am going to format my hard drive and need to back up user files to an external hard drive
However i am unable to copy music files because they are 'write protected'
How do i disable write protection?

Can you not just drag and drop them onto your external drive?

i usually just right click on my music folder and send to the drive i want them to go to .... or drag and drop onto the drive

tried to drop and drag files but error message persists

Can you then actually play them? As you are not trying to write to them I cannot see why you cannot move them somewhere else

there is a setting in media player for copy protecting music and uncopy protecting music goto tool options rip music and you will see that there will be a tick in the box for copy protecting music untick this and then go back to tools and apply changes to media information changes hopefully this will fix the issue
