Can anyone tell me how I can copy desktop icons such as recylce bin and folder so that I can use them in a word document?

The easiest way is to click the print screen key on the key board and paste into a graphics program. Then you can cut the particular icon you want and paste into the word document.

Or you could use a program such as IconXtractor to hoover out the icons from any file.

If you want just the active window, hold the alt key while pressing the print screen.

Don't know about individual icons though.
