converting WMV files to MPEG

Hi people; How do I convert a windows media video file to mpeg? I want to be able to record it in VCD format. My recorder( using Nero) trys to do it but it takes ages.

Depending on the size of file you wish to convert, yes, it can take a long time.

Bapou: Your first link for TMPGEnc seems to convert an *.AVI file to a MPEG1.

mugiz wants to convert a wmv file, not an avi. Will it work for this format?.

Yes it converts wmv, I've used it for a number of wmv files created from Movie Maker 2.

Sorry about the link, I have that bookmarked and the free version should be available from there.

I should add, after converting, dropping an Mpeg on to a disc will not work on a standalone DVD player. You will need authoring software for this such as Ulead's Movie Factory.

The DVD Help site (second link) will explain.
