Converting CD Files to MP3

I want to convert .cda files from some audio CDs to MP3 files to use as a background to slide shows.

Can this be done using Windows Media Player?

If not, has anyone experience of using the 'MP3 for Dummies' software from the Focal Press?

Any help gratefully received.

I think you would need to save your .cda files to your hard disk as .wav files and then convert from there. I use a programme from WIS technologies called MP3 converter to do just that but they have to be .wav files first.

lamachan download and install this converter, and it is then only a matter of right-clicking on the tracks, and convert them to your own destination folder as mp3s. click here

There are many free mp3 ripping applications available like the one Joe McG has pointed you towards. To get mp3's from WMP you need to download, at a price, an additional codec.

You might want to consider the recently released iTunes from Apple - its free and IMHO much better than WMP. (19.6MB download)

or try quintessential music player. search on google should come up with it straight away. or a retail converter like Nero does the job for me.
