A friend uses a Lotus spreadsheet with suffix WK1. When I had Windows 98SE I was able to convert his spreadsheets to make them readable. Now that I have Windows XP I can find no way to convert the Lotus sheets. Any advice please.

Which program are you trying to open them in?

Sorry. I want to convert them to MS Excel

Fire-up Excel
Click File/Open
Click down arrow on "Files of Type"
Scroll down and click Lotus 1-2-3 Files (*.wk1)
Click down arrow on "Look in"
Locate folder in which Lotus wk1 files appear
Click Open and file will be converted
Save newly converted file in Excel

Incidentally, you may see a number of Hash characters in your new file. This simply means that the column is not wide enough for the data it contains. Go to the column headings and hover the cursor/pointer over the dividers between the columns until it changes to a double headed arrow, then double click. The column width will change to accommodate the maximum width of data.
