Control Panel 'View' settings not saved

Windows XP Home SP1. This is only a minor irritation but I've been unable to track down a fix.

I prefer to have the 'List' view when I open Control Panel but it often changes from this to a compressed 'Details' view (the name and comments columns are truncated). It always seem to do this on reboot but today I've noticed that it has changed a couple of times in the 6 hours or so it has been switched on.

Anyone any idea what setting I need to change to 'lock' down the view?

Don't really know, but would it be 'lock the toolbars' under view>toolbars. TR

Have you tried this click here

Good point but it's ticked. I should have mentioned that I've also tried closing the window down using the 'Ctrl' key and the x in the top right as I know that works for saving the settings of some other views.

That seems to be what I've been searching for. I'll give it a try but it might be a bit before I can confirm it works. I wonder why I didn't track that down myself?

Thank you all for the help:0)

That seems to have done the trick. I changed the settings to 8000.

It's also fixed another problem I had with the power saving settings for my screen. Sometimes my system wouldn't 'remember' to switch off after 10 minutes of inactivity. It does now.
