Control Panel Crashing In Windows 98

I have quite an old Dell laptop, which recently isn't allowing me to access control panel. When I click then icon the computer slows up or crashes and control panel never opens. Any ideas?

Control Panel apps have a .cpl extension. One of them is probably causing the crash when it is being loaded when control panel opens. Search for .cpl files and then rename them to a different extension, one at a time, until you find the one that was causing the problem.

... actually it would probably be easier to run each .cpl individually to see which one crashes, and then just rename that one.
