content encoding error

I have updated recently to Firefox 3
Now when I try to browse certain sites I get the following : "Content encoding error. Cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression"
I changed from my desktop to my laptop using the same cable connection with the same result.
My IT guys had my pc in for service but they had no problem entering the sites which I had problems with.
My internet provider insists it is not their problem.
any advice, please?
