I want to connect the above but I have been told that I will have to get a converter as the VGA output will not go to a Scart inlet.

Does your TV not have a VGA socket or maybe an hdmi one with a similar one on your computer graphics card. What alternative sockets do you actually have on the computer and the TV as we may be able to suggest the best solution if we have all the possibilities.

The only spare outlet on the computer is the VGA outlet and the Phillips T.V. has 2 scart inlets

I have now been told that a VGA outlet does not carry sound is this correct ?

Yes, that's correct. You'd need to get audio by connecting your PC's audio out to the TV's audio in via a separate cable.

If you only have a vga output and scart inputs you will need a suitable adaptor cable. Suggest a search on eBay. Yes you will also need top taker a separate audio cable from your computer sound card output to your TV. Scart does have a sound channel so look for an adaptor with a sound input socket.
