i have a netgear(sky) wireless capable router but have it connected to my main(non wireless) xp pc by eternet cable.
i previously had an adsl speedtouch modem.with the modem i could run my mouse across the system tray icon and see the connection speed(usually around 6Mb)but i cannot see this information with the router. how can i find out what my connection speed is?

With most routers if you enter their configuration page you can find out the connection speed. I have done this with Belkin and D-Link but not Netgear.

Go to the web interface and log in, admin - sky. On the main screen you should have two button at the bottom, router statistics and connection status. Click on router statistics and this will give you your connection speed and more.
